Tenant requests for assistance animals are growing rapidly. Property owners and managers need to be knowledgeable about recent changes to Virginia laws and guidance to properly handle these requests, and to be in compliance with fair housing requirements.

Learning Objectives:

  • What animals constitute assistance animals
  • How to evaluate a tenant or applicant’s request to have an assistance animal in their rental home
  • What types of verifications may you require from tenants or applicants
  • How do you determine whether to accept or deny a request
